Has your denture started clicking when you talk, or slipping just enough to worry you mid-meal? Maybe a corner has chipped, or a clasp on a partial has snapped clean off. None of that means you're stuck with it, and it definitely doesn't mean starting over with a brand new set. At Dr. Pithadia's Dental & Healthcare Clinic in Sector 14, Kharghar, most denture problems have a fix well short of remaking the whole thing.
Why Dentures Go Loose Over Time
A denture that fit well at your first appointment can feel different a year or two later, and that's not a sign anything was done wrong. Once teeth are gone, the jawbone underneath no longer gets the stimulation it used to get from tooth roots, so the ridge gradually remodels and changes shape. Your gums settle into that new shape too. The denture, meanwhile, stays exactly as it was made, which is why the gap between the two shows up as looseness, clicking, or food working its way underneath while you eat.
It's a slow, ordinary process, not a fault in the denture or in how you've looked after it. But it's also exactly the kind of thing that quietly changes how you live. A denture that clicks or shifts has a way of making you hold back at the moments you'd rather enjoy fully, a proper laugh at a family gathering, or biting into a vada pav on the way home without a second thought.
Reline, Repair or Replace? How to Tell Which One You Need
These three get used loosely, but they solve different problems, and knowing which one you actually need saves you a wasted visit.
- Reline is for fit, not damage. The teeth on your denture are fine and nothing is cracked, but your gums have changed shape and the base no longer sits snugly. We reshape the underside of the existing denture to match your current gums, rather than making a new one from scratch. The NHS has a clear overview of how and why this fit changes over time.
- Repair is for a specific, physical break: a cracked base, a chipped or broken tooth, or a clasp on a partial denture that's snapped. The rest of the denture is usually still doing its job well, so we fix the one part that's failed.
- Replace makes more sense once a denture is old enough that the teeth have visibly worn flat, it's been relined or repaired more than once already, or the fit keeps slipping even right after a reline. At that point, patching an ageing denture further tends to cost more over time than a fresh one would.
One thing worth saying plainly: a slightly different feeling in the first two to three weeks with a brand new denture is a normal adjustment, not a fault. Your tongue and cheek muscles need a little time to learn to hold it in place. Give it that window before assuming something needs fixing.
Fixing a Broken Denture: What Actually Happens
How a broken denture gets fixed depends on what's actually broken and how much of the denture is involved.
Same-visit repairs
A single chipped tooth, a hairline crack in the base, or a straightforward clasp repair can often be sorted the same day you bring it in, once we've had a proper look. These are the most common denture repairs we see in Sector 14.
Lab-based repairs
A denture broken clean in two, or one that needs a new tooth added or a metal clasp replaced entirely, usually has to go to the lab. That typically takes a day or two, during which we'll talk through whether you need a temporary option in the meantime.
Here's an opinion we'll stand behind: reaching for a household superglue to fix a crack yourself is one of the fastest ways to turn a repairable denture into one that can't be properly repaired at all. Cyanoacrylate glues aren't designed to be put in the mouth, and once they've bonded a crack unevenly, a dental lab often can't get a clean surface to rejoin it properly afterward. Bring it in as it is, even if a piece has come off. It's usually more fixable than it looks.
At-Home Denture Repair and Reline Visits in Kharghar
Not every denture problem is urgent enough for a hospital-style dash to the clinic, but travelling isn't always simple either, especially for an elderly parent managing mobility issues or recovering from an illness. Dr. Pithadia's Dental & Healthcare Clinic offers at-home denture consultations, impressions, relines and repairs across Kharghar and Navi Mumbai, so the same standard of care comes to your doorstep instead of the other way round. It's a service families arranging care for an older relative use often, and one we're glad to keep offering.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a denture reline cost in Kharghar?
It depends on whether it's a soft or hard reline and how much adjustment your denture needs, so we don't quote a figure without seeing it first. At your consultation in Sector 14, Dr. Urvashi Pithadia will examine the fit and give you a clear estimate before any work begins.
Can I repair a broken denture myself with a DIY glue kit?
We'd advise against it. Household and even some DIY denture-repair glues aren't designed for the mouth, and a rough or uneven bond can make a proper lab repair harder afterward. Bring the pieces in as they are rather than gluing them first.
How long does a denture reline last?
A reline generally holds well for a couple of years, though this varies from person to person since it depends on how much your gums and jawbone continue to change. Regular check-ups let us catch it before the fit becomes uncomfortable again.
My denture only feels loose sometimes, not all the time. Does it still need fixing?
It's worth having checked rather than ignored. Intermittent looseness, especially while eating or speaking, is often an early sign that a reline is coming due, even if it isn't bothering you every day yet.
Can a broken clasp on a partial denture be repaired?
Usually, yes. A snapped or loose clasp on a partial denture is one of the more common repairs we see, and it's often a same-visit or short lab turnaround fix rather than a reason to remake the whole denture.
Do you offer denture repair at home in Kharghar?
Yes. For patients who find it hard to travel, Dr. Pithadia's Dental & Healthcare Clinic offers at-home denture consultations, relines and repairs across Kharghar and Navi Mumbai, alongside the regular denture services at our Sector 14 clinic.
